TE KUHANE O TE TUPUNA
TEARS FELL AND BLESSED THE AROHANUI FILM FESTIVAL AS THE MANA OF HOA HAKA NANAIA MOAI TOUCHED THE HEART OF FESTIVAL DOYENNE LYNNE RENWICK AT THE LOCAL SCREENING OF TE KUHANE O TE TUPUNA - SPIRIT OF THE ANCESTORS A DOCUMENTARY DIRECTED BY LEONARDO PAKARATI.
This silent tribute was rekindled by Lynne's personal memory of a journey to Rapanui and later Chile undertaken in 2007.It was a heartfelt demonstration of how powerfull the art of film making can be.
The inclusion of this documentary goes beyond the standard criteria of film selection where photography and storytelling are paramount. The Festival Committee have presented a programme that is an inclusive platform.
The Arohanui Film Festival is not just another small town event in search of an identity. It is charactorized by an ability to grapple with the cultural, political and spiritual.Much thought and love has been invested here.

WAITANGI KI PAEROA CELEBRATON 7/2/2017

CELEBRATE AS ONE - KIA KOTAHI AI TATOU
A COMMUNITY CELEBRATION ON OUR NATIONAL DAY AT THE PAEROA DOMAIN HAS ADDRESSED A SERIOUS CONSERVATION ISSUE BY USING A CREATIVE APPROACH.
Nearly every shorebird species in NZ is experiencing a signifigant fall in population. The end point of population decline is extinction. Some like the Southern NZ Dotterel are just one step away from that fate.
Although extinction is a natural process it is now running at 100 times the normal rate as a result of human activities. For shorebirds
loss of and damage to habitat, both here and overseas is a major factor. In NZ introduced predators are an extra burden pushing a number of species closer to extinction.
THE FLOCK - MAKE,PAINT AND FOLLOW
The FlockNZ is a fun and creative approach to this serious local issue.Initiated in NZ by the Tikapa Moana based Pukorokoro Miranda
Naturalist's Trust, this approach has now become international.
Everyone can get involved by cutting out, painting or hosting bird gatherings.Over 3000 birds have already been assembled by community groups.
